Was it worth it ?

A friend of mine Yuhui called me for lunch today. He has brought back fresh green raisins (from this year’s harvest from Xinjiang (a well known Muslim autonomous region in western side of China ). I have been there before during their Summer Grape harvest. I love the grapes there. I cannot get these grapes in Singapore. It is so unique in taste and sweetness that even the Australian and Chile grapes cannot hold a candle to it. The taste of that fresh vine of grapes is so unforgettable. I am so grateful for his graciousness to bring this bag of raisins all the way from China to Singapore for me. Was it worth it ? I think to him, I am still his friend worthy to do that extra mile for me. Thank you Yuhui, if you read this blog.

Yuhui is going to be first time father . He is extremely happy by the similing face he wears whenever I see him in the office when he visit us (our company is his customer). However, his wife is in China, Beijing and he is in Singapore. Tough for the couple! For my friend, it was a work committment that brought him here in Singapore before he knew he is going to be father.

I was very eager to give him parenting tips when I heard he is going to be a father.  My stacks of most read baby books will be of used, I thought to myself. Finally, it was only yesterday night, after dinner ,that I get my hubsand’s help to seach through the stacks of unopened boxes to retrieve these books for Yuhui. Some 5 months ago, I shifted back home from my 2.5 years  work assignments in Shanghai, China. My boxes of books and kitchen wares, camping equipments, curtains, winter clothings, gardening tools and pots are still unpacked. These boxes are now in my guest room stack up high from the floor to the ceiling , taking up at least 20 square metres of the room space.  Was it worth it to dig and move so many boxes just to get that parenting books ( which I read )to pass to my friend Yuhui? Yes. it was worth it. Because I knew in my heart, Yuhui and his wife ( in Beijing )will be blessed. They will be much well -prepared with new perspective of parenting and will have a enjoyable parenting experience. BTW, in China, it is illegal to disclose the sex of the child to the parents. So no one has any idea if Yuhui will have a son or a daughter. However, my prayers are with him, his wife and his unborn child.
