Children has no urgency ?

A personal story heard from my extended family and I wondered how my child will behave in such circumstances too. Will you do the same ?  What’s your child’s reaction then?

How many times have you instructed your child to wait for you at the gate of the school so that you can pick them up straight without running into school compound looking for them ? You waited and waited for that few 10 of seconds when the cars at the back of the queue started to horn at you asking you to make way. The queue is getting longer as many parents are driving into the drive way to pick up their children. Most of the children waited patiently at the bench and hopped straight into the car that they recognised as their parents. Your child is missing in action. Time tickled by seconds. You cannot stand the honing any longer. You drove out of the driveway and parked near a lot next to the school. Holding the other child in your hand, you walked faster and breathing harder as you approached the school. You are fuming mad, your child is no way in sight. He has ignored your instruction and now the only thought you have is to scream at him for not listen.  You shouted his name and he is not in your sight. You turned around and asked your younger one, ” Where do you think he will be ?  “  She shuddered. “  Don’t know.” She continued to twist and play with her hair, a sign of boredom.  It is already 1.35 p.m. It has passed 20 minutes since you asked him  to wait for you at the driveway.

As you approached the canteen, you saw a sea of heads. Children in the canteen. Then, your eyes catch a familiar looking head ( hair standing all up like a electric statics head ) tugging into his bowl of noddles, slurping down every ounce of the soup.  You shouted, ” Jxxx,  why are you here ?  Did I not instructed you to wait for me at the driveway at 1.15 p.m?  I ‘m not going to wait for you. You will take your own taxi back home !!!! ”

The kid looked up bewildered that his mum is  standing in-front of him with his sister, fuming mad, eyes rolling big and shouting at him. Something he did not really comprehend as the noodle soup is so delicious and he was extremely hungry. Before he can open his mouth ( mouth full of noodles), his mum stormed away. It was like playing on the computer game, Maple story.   Now you see, now you don’t.   As his mum walked away, he continued with his lunch, focusing on the fulfilling his hunger. He definitely has not worried about the time nor the taxi way home.

Mum was fuming mad as she stormed out. ” This will definitely teach him a lesson.”  She thought. “I am not turning back. He is already a 12 years old and he is still not responsible.” The younger kid remains silent and stop her boredom. She walked quietly besides her mum making sure that she will not lose her as she does not want to be alone and take her own transport back.

After finishing his bowl of noodles,  he started to look around the canteen. The students in the canteen are scattered few. Many have left. The cleaners are cleaning up the tables.  He stared at the clock in front of him. It is  1.45 p.m. He thought, “  Time for some story making.” He took out his scratch book and started drawing.   He has no money left to take taxi. However, he knew that his mum will be back for him. It is just a matter of time. He does not bother with how long or when. To him, it is time for his drawing after filling up his hunger pangs.

An hour later, mum came alone. Picked up his bag and they walked towards the car-park.
