Linking Memory
Posted: March 5, 2009Linking Memory is one set of the teaching material that Shichida Method that teaches in the 6-7 years old class. Children are asked to remember and recite all 40 items on the page. These items are not linked to one another. i.e. It is not categorized in any manner.
The way to remember these 40 items is to listen to a CD which all these items are linked into a storyline. The story does not make much sense. It sounds funny even sometimes. However, I think it is best to remember these funny stories when linking these 40 items together. My daughter loves to do it at first. She will diligently listen and to this again and again at different speed of reading. When tested in the class, the child are asked to recite these 40 items in the shortest possible timeframe.
In the older class (6-7 years old class), the children are required to recite at least 5 sets of such pages. These are about 200 items in all. The child are to recite these within 2 minutes. The classmates in her weekend class, most of them do well. Some can recite non stop up to 3-5 pages in one go. Others need some help and prompting from the teacher. However, my daughter is one of those that need more help. She get even more relunctant to recite this even during class. I felt it was a pressure thing she experienced especially when the parents are around during the lessons when their child start reciting well. I did not even pressure her to do as good as her rest of classmate. It must be a confident thing in her.
Helping her to build her confidence in areas that she does best is needed
