Too Much Sleep bad for you!
Posted: March 16, 2008You probably know that getting too little sleep is harmful to your health, but did you know that getting too much sleep can be bad for you as well ?
A new study showed that woman who average about five hours of sleep each night are almost 40% more likely to develop heart disease. Doctors were not surprised by this findings. We have known for a long time that sleep deprivation is harmful to one’s health.
But the same study showed that women who averaged nine or more hours of sleep each night were also at high risk. They were about 37 % more likely to develop some kind of heart diseas.
Researchers cannot explain this finding. They suspect that the factors could be related to work, depression or an underlying illness. Nevertheless, they concluded that the right amount of sleep is around eight hours a night and that getting proper sleep is just as important to one’s health as diet and exercise.
